2025 Spring Scholarship Frequently Asked Questions

I MEET THE OTHER REQUIREMENTS, BUT am i eligible if…?

  • I’m graduating at the end of this spring?

    • If you’re an undergraduate student, YES! There’s nothing barring students who are about to graduate from applying!

  • I’m an environmental engineering major?

    • As long as you’re in the department of civil engineering at either TXST or UT Austin, YES!

Do you have requirements for…?

  • GPA?

  • Full-time/part-time status?

  • Heavy involvement with my ASCE student chapter?

  • Interest or research in specific areas of civil engineering?

  • Letters of recommendation?

The answer to all of the above is NO, we don’t have any requirements for the above! Level of involvement in your student chapter may be considered, but all that’s required the apply is membership.

are there separate applications for each scholarship amount?

Nope! It’s a one and done kind of deal.

WHAT IF i CAN’T MAKE IT TO THE LUNCHEON?

We highly encourage students to be recognized at our April luncheon, but if you cannot make it due to prior commitments, we understand and that does NOT affect your eligibility to apply! We ask that all recipients send in a headshot and short bio regardless if they can attend in person so that they can be recognized by members of the branch.

what type of transcript is needed to apply?

Whether you’re a student at TXST or UT Austin, an unofficial transcript showing all course information and history is required! See below for screenshots of what the documents should look like.

What if i’m not a member of the austin branch?

Many students choose to become members using their permanent addresses, which may lead to membership under a different branch (e.g., the Houston branch, Dallas branch, etc.). While membership within the Austin Branch in particular is not required, we are only able to verify membership internally against the Austin Branch records. If you are aware that your membership is outside of the Austin Branch, please notify us in your application and we will work with you to verify your membership with other branches. Please be aware that this external verification may take extra processing time.

what are the pros and cons of applying?

Pros:

  • Potential to receive $1,000, $1,500, or $2,500! It’s free money.

  • Potential recognition from the Austin Branch members for your achievement at the April general meeting (and a free lunch).

  • There aren’t separate applications for each amount. Just one application and you’re done.

Cons:

  • May have to write a single page paper (which should take less time than most of your engineering labs!)
