Job Description

The Engineer-in-Training (EIT) will apply basic engineering principles, under the direction of a Professional Engineer, to project assignments. The EIT will become familiar with the engineering staff, methods, practices, and procedures of the firm to provide Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) services. The position reports to the Senior Project Manager. It is a salaried, exempt from overtime position, and may require working more than 40 hours per week.

Essential Job Functions

  • Able to perform specific and limited portions of a broader assignment under the direction of a Professional Engineer/ Project Manager.

  • Able to apply standard practices and techniques in specific situations.

  • Able to collect, adjust, and correlate data and recognize discrepancies in results.

  • Able to perform project assignments within the scope of work and guidelines defined by the Project Manager, and within the time and schedule allocations provided. These assignments will include, but are not limited to:

    • Obtaining permits as needed for project executions

    • Preparing engineering documents using AutoCAD and/or Microstation software platforms.
      o Reviewing and processing field data on assigned projects

    • Performing quantity take offs and assisting in development of client proposals

    • Preparing drawings for exhibits and reports

    • Preparing and assembling project deliverable packages

    • Contacting local, state and federal agencies and client personnel to request and check data, reports, and other material, at the direction of a Project Manager

  • Able to communicate clearly with other company personnel, including Project Managers, Field Staff, and Leadership via telephone, text and email.

  • Able to report to work on-time.

Job Requirements

  • Education (Minimum) - B.S. degree in Civil Engineering

  • Certification – EIT in Texas or ability to obtain within 6 months

  • Minimum previous Engineering experience required, however internships with Engineering firm a plus

  • Mastery of MS Office products, i.e.: MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation is a plus

  • Must pass pre-employment drug & alcohol screenings

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
