The City of Austin, Watershed Protection Department (WPD), seeks a Graduate Engineer for our Local Flood Risk Reduction (LFRR) Section. Our mission is to protect life, property, and the environment from the effects of flooding. The work of the LFRR section includes the management of consultants and staff to complete projects that will reduce local flood hazards to houses, commercial buildings and roadways due to inadequate storm drain systems.

This position will also provide support to the design Team Lead and Supervising Engineer in review and completion of tasks that require entry level engineering skills.

We are hiring for a GRADUATE ENGINEER A or GRADUATE ENGINEER B

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduate Engineer A: Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job.

Graduate Engineer B: Bachelor's degree in an appropriate engineering discipline with at least two (2) years of engineering experience. This level requires a Texas Engineer-In-Training Certification.

Job Requirements

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in water resources

  • Demonstrate knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic analysis including 1D and 2D modeling of primarily storm drain systems and open channels, including experience and proficiency with hydraulic and hydrologic modeling software such as StormCAD, CivilStorm, Inforworks ICM, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, PondPack, etc.

  • Demonstrate experience in and knowledge of engineering design software such as Civil 3D and AutoCAD

  • Experience with GIS and surveying

  • Knowledge of the City of Austin’s Drainage Criteria Manual

  • Skill in oral and written technical and general communication
