The City of Austin, Watershed Protection Department (WPD), seeks a Graduate Engineer for our Creek Flood Risk Reduction (CFRR) Section. The goal of the CFRR section is to reduce the impacts of creek flooding to Austin's residents. This goal is achieved by identifying, prioritizing, planning, and implementing flood risk reduction projects and activities throughout the City. Our section also participates in code and criteria development and provides technical assistance to other WPD missions, City departments, and the development community.

Example of duties include performing feasibility studies to assess potential solutions to flooding issues; identifying and implementing field engineering and small scale mitigation solutions; sponsoring preliminary engineering, final design, and construction of CIP projects; providing technical assistance and conducting reviews of development applications.

We are hiring for a GRADUATE ENGINEER A or GRADUATE ENGINEER B

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduate Engineer A: Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job.

Graduate Engineer B: Bachelor's degree in an appropriate engineering discipline with at least two (2) years of engineering experience. This level requires a Texas Engineer-In-Training Certification.

Job Requirements

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two (2) or more years experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and engineering analysis.

  • Experience performing topographic survey using GPS and Total Station equipment.

  • Experience and proficiency in GIS and engineering design software such as AutoCAD.

  • Experience of and experience with the City of Austin's Drainage Criteria Manual.

  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills.

  • Experience performing field work.
