Performs advanced and complex engineering work in bridge inspections. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.
Analyzes, performs, and checks bridge load ratings in accordance with TxDOT practice.
Ensures compliance with National Bridge Inspection Standards.
Researches and responds to technical and policy questions related to bridge inspection and maintains bridge inspection data; analyzes data and provides summaries.
Performs fracture critical member inspections and scour critical evaluations; travels statewide as required to perform this essential duty. Assists districts with bridge inspection-related matters.
Schedules, assigns and oversees bridge inspection activities.
Performs final review, prepares, evaluates and negotiates contracts with consultants for routine, fracture critical and underwater bridge inspections.
Develops standards in conjunction with TxDOT divisions and districts and the Federal Highway Administration and ensures compliance with National Bridge Inspection Standards.
May serve as a lead worker.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
