Performs advanced and complex bridge and structural engineering work in the functional area of bridge inspection. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.
Assists districts with bridge inspection-related matters.
Coordinates and performs fracture critical member inspections and scour critical evaluations, underwater inspections; travels statewide as required to perform this essential duty.
Performs final review, prepares, evaluates and negotiates contracts with consultants for routine, fracture critical and underwater bridge inspections.
Serves as a primary help desk resource for routine technical and policy issues. Represents the district/division at technical meetings and public hearings at local, state, federal and international levels.
Answers technical and policy questions related to bridge inspection and maintains bridge inspection data; analyzes data and provides summaries.
Ensures compliance with National Bridge Inspection Standards.
Makes presentations and represents TxDOT and performs and documents in-house research studies.
Performs inspections, structural evaluations, rating, and analyses of bridges and related structures that have low appraisal and condition ratings or are recommended for closure.
Inspects structures for impact damage and construction problems and may design emergency shoring to prevent collapse of damaged structures.
