Job Description

The City of Austin, Watershed Protection Department, seeks a Graduate Engineer with a specialty in water resources or environmental engineering to perform design, analysis, construction oversight and project management of stream restoration and stormwater treatment projects. Of particular interest are candidates with education and experience in stream restoration, bio-engineering and green infrastructure approaches to stormwater treatment.

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job.

Typical duties include: Planning and design of stormwater treatment facilities under the supervision of a staff engineer; Performing calculations to determine the anticipated performance of water quality controls and their cost effectiveness; Oversight of engineering consultant task orders for the planning and design of CIP projects; Providing technical assistance to other City departments on matters involving environmental criteria of the land development code.

Job Requirements


  • Experience using continuous simulation stormwater models such as InfoWorks or SWMM.

  • Experience using ArcGIS software.

  • Experience or training in the use of design software such as AutoCAD or Civil 3D.

  • Experience with hydraulic and hydrologic modeling software such as HEC-RAS or HEC-HMS.


$62,296 - $78,956 annually
