The Public Relations Committee has a variety of
responsibilities with the goal of enhancing the
public image of the Civil Engineer. The Austin
Branch has contributed significantly to this goal in
the past, through the PR Committee by: reaching
hundreds of school children and their parents;
honoring journalists who have published articles
about civil engineering; developing civil
engineering brochure highlighting Austin area civil
engineering landmarks that is distributed at the
Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau; and
coordinating with the Central Texas Steering
Committee for E-Week.
The primary responsibilities of the PR Committee
include:
-
Organize student outreach activities at the
Austin
Children's Museum and other facilities to
encourage the study of math and science.
-
Represent the Austin Branch on the Greater
Austin Steering Committee; coordinate branch
outreach activities for Engineers Week with
events organized by the steering committee.
See the website at
www.centexeweek.org.
-
Coordinate the
Annual
Food Drive.
-
Provide press releases for noteworthy ASCE
events, such as Habitat for Humanity and
Engineers Week activities.
-
Distribute copies of the Civil Engineer Brochure
at Austin Convention & Visitors Bureau, etc.
-
Coordinate/submit nominations for "Excellence
